Before going to Alaska in March of 2000, I worked part time as a flight instructor out of El Monte, CA.  I spent about 2 years as a flight instructor while I worked as a teacher, teaching elementary special education.  Taking a full time position as a pilot was all I wanted when I returned.  I was fortunate enough to get an interview with Ameriflight, Inc in Burbank, CA two days after returning to Southern California.  The interview went well, and I began class the end of October.

I started with Ameriflight flying the PA-32R Lance.  Pretty much the same airplane I flew in Alaska, except it has retractable landing gear.  After 6 months flying the Lance on the dreaded AMF 103 route to Blythe, CA, and a leisurely AMF 110 to San Luis Obispo, I moved into the PA-31 Navajo/Chieftain.  The only routes at the time were BUR to MYF (Montgomery Field in San Diego) so I spent summer 2001 on the beach.  Then in August I started training in the Beechcraft 99, which I have been flying for a year now.

Ameriflight routes in the BE-99 out of BUR include OAK many times each night.  Many of the BE-99 flights for BUR based pilots actually originate out of ONT (Ontario International) off of the UPS (United Parcel Service) ramp.  From there Ameriflight takes the next day air packages all over Southern California (SBP, SMX, SBA, OXR, IMP, VIS, BFL, BIH, IFP) as well as down to Tijuana Mexico (the flight I have been doing most of this summer).

Other AMF bases include Oakland (OAK), Portland (PDX), Seattle (BFI), Salt Lake City (SLC), Phoenix (PHX), Billings (BIL), Addison (ADS), Cincinnati (CVG), where similar operations take place flying bank work, courier work, UPS, and DHL among other things.
